I just built a athlon 2800 system. I used a fan for a 3000. My question is what is a good temprature to run the processor at. I am thinking about overclcking slightly but i don't want it to get to hot. thanks

it was up to 107 today after being left on for about 3 days stright. That is the higest i Hv seen it.

That's just fine. AMD docs show the MAX operating temp in Celsius which is usually 70-85C depending on the specific model CPU. You really don't want to be anywhere near that in real life however, but that is the maximum safe temp for the CPU to prevent self-destruction. You would usually see system crashes or hangs well before 85C.

Typically the Retail AMD fan/heatsinks in a PC case with good airflow run in the mid 40's C at idle and low to mid 50's C under full CPU load like with video games or benchmarking with CPU intensive programs. To convert Celsius temps to Fahrenheit use nine fifths of the Fahrenheit figure plus 32. So 40C = 104 F and 50C = 122 F. Now these temps are for a case with good airflow which usually results from at least one case fan in front and one case fan in back plus the power supply fan. Naturally the temps are affected by the room temp. Hot room temps result in higher CPU temps unless you blow a lot of air across the heat sink. It looks like your CPU temp is on the cool side so you should be able to O/C a bit without too much trouble.
