Hi,

My father in-law has an older AMD Athlon XP 1700, 1.47 GHZ PC with 256 MB RAM that is "slow" (imagine that). I told him to max out the RAM on it if he doesn't want to go with a new one. Can anyone tell me what the max RAM is for this machine? Also any web vendors who sell it would be great.

For example, replace the current 256MB with 2x512MB PC3200(DRR400) or 2x1GB.
This with the assumption that the motherboard takes DDR RAM, many older moterhboards(before 2002) use SDR RAM only. So it would help if we know what motherboard is in question? And what operating system?

Thanks for the reply. Not sure on the motherboard, but he's using XP. I'll try and find out the board type. Is that found under Control Panel>System?
