Have two Gigabyte GA-7VT600 1394 motherboards. Neither will POST with a XP 2600+ Barton. Have four chips (two OEM and two retail) and chips work fine on other motherboards. Have tried other cases, i.e. different power supplies. Have google'd and checked forums...appears problem is related to the new low power Barton chips.

Per Gigabyte web site, similar motherboard GA-7VT600 (non-1394) required BIOS update to support Barton:
http://www.giga-byte.com/Mothe...uppo...S_GA-7VT600.htm' ">http://www.giga-byte.com/Mothe...IOS/BIOS_GA-7VT600.htm

Unfortunately, no BIOS update supporting Barton offered for 1394 mobo:
http://www.giga-byte.com/Mothe...uppo...T600%201394.htm' ">http://www.giga-byte.com/Mothe...S_GA-7VT600%201394.htm

I have latest F4 BIOS for GA-7VT600 1394. With Barton chip, machine fails to POST and issues wailing French ambulance siren sounds for a few seconds before powering itself off. Was able to POST with a 1.3 Duron and verify BIOS version and confirm that motherboards are not bad.

Dude, I had that same problem! Geez, I went to Fry's, and all those boards on shelf were all returns! I gave up and got me a Shuttle board w/ the nForce2 chipset. Now if only the video card would work properly.....

I'm not sure, but something is flaky about those boards. I couldn't get it to post either. And I don't particularly like the position of the capacitors around the CPU. Makes it too easy to break something if u use the wrong sized HSF.
