I want to mention first that I'm not familiar with PCs & helping me might require some patience. Also, I'm not sure what information I need to share in order to get help.

I'll start here, I have the following:

AMD Athlon 64 3400+

After a friend did something to my PC involving removing XP & reinstalling it, I'm left without sound. In my PC's Device Manager I have yellow ?'s for:

Media Audio Controller;and,
SM Bus Controller

Previously, there was a 'jitter' or 'jumping' when I scrolled. I was advised to uninstalled a third video driver from this yellow ? list & power off my PC. Though I tried this with all three on the list, on the video issue was resolved.

easy fix and there are 2 ways around this.

find your motherboard manufacture and model number. its stamped on the motherboard.

Sample

Type the model number into google search and go to manufacture download page.

If its a pre made dell HP ETC just go to there web site with this info. Download all drivers for the PC or board and install.

That's it and your done.

Way 2 is to download Everest ultimate and look into the motherboard section for your info.

Thank you. My audio is running fine. Here's what I did (in case it helps others):

Following your advise to discover the motherboard I have MICRO-STAR MS-7145.

I searched the term on Google & discovered it has Realtek AC'97 audio which I downloaded from here: http://www.realtek.com.tw/down...ID=3&GetDown=false#AC

I set up a system restore before hand, ran the file, restarted & youtube is back on the menu!

One more question, is the ATI SB400 unnecessary?

its needed and you need to download the drivers from MSI for the motherboard.
