Hi i just bought a xp-2400 2.0 ghz 266 mhz socket A. my motherboard is an K7sem it is supposed to work with all socket A cpus. i installed the cpu the bios said the chip was not reconized. so i pulled the chip and went to the bios page there was a bios to help the cmos reconize 2100+ and 2200+. after flashing the bios i still cant get the cpu to even start the bios. is this chip bad now? will a system that is not compatible burn a chip up even though it never got passed the bios loading? thanks for your help

ok with a little troubleshooting and alot of reading. i did not fix the problem with this motherboard but the problem is one the Motherboard does not support a cpu that large. but i did get it to run on here again after clearing the bios and restarting the computer with the old chip. then shuting down and putting the new chip back in and it would boot. still could not get it passed DMI pool settings keeps locking up. so after reading the motherboard page i see it only works with 2100 and 2200 not the 2400 i bought. unless someone knows of another way. thanks
