I purchased an AMD athlon 600 Mhz brand new from gateway in 2000. The machine has never worked properly (first a boot up problem then a shutting down problem) using WIN98SE. I recently converted to WIN2000 and this seems to have solved the problem (i spent a year on the phone to Gateway with no success). My first problem is that all my drivers are microsoft ones now and I need the correct drivers for my PCI cards, chipset and controllers etc etc but I dont know the make and model numbers of any of these components (I want to find out what my motherboard and chipset are). How can I find out what they all are? I also want to upgrade the RAM and possibly the processor to speed things up a little if it is possible. Any suggestions would be helpful.

regards

Run a sysinfo utility like SiSoft Sandra or AIDA32(search on google) - that should help you identify most of your hardware

you may have to get a new motherboard if you want to get a new processor/ram. Just make sure everything checks out . Best of luck
