Ok, I've used artic silver 5 on my athlon xp 2500+. Bingo! My idle temperature went down from 47 to a mere 39...and this has been goin steady for almost 2 months. THEN, just last week, I've noticed that it went back up to 44 degrees while at idle. Upset yet curious enough I thought it was just some stuck up malicious program circling about my processes that wouldn't end so I decided to reformat entirely my system. Hoping that my temp would return to the normal 39 sadly it didn't...still 44. So can anyone advice what's this all about? Is this problem software or hardware in nature. I checked my fans, they are all working...or did the artic silver 5 fail? Do I need to reapply once more? Please...I can't sleep just because of this predicament.
Oh for anyone's concern here is the specs of my PC:
Athlon XP 2500+ ECS N2U400 motherboard 2x Geil Dual Channel PC400 Value 256MB DDR 2x256 Inno 3D FX5200 128MB-128bit 40GB Samsung 7200rpm HDD
I have 2x3000rpm case fans and my 400W power supply has a 12cm fan right above the processor.
Please, I'd gladly appreciate any help at all.
