I'm currently using an Athlon XP 2200+ w/ MSI K7T Turbo2 (KT133A) mobo, running on 512mb (2 x 123mb Apacer and 1 x 256mb Kingston) SDRAM module and GeForce 4 MX440 64mb DDR running under Windows 98SE (yup, I know my system is already outdated) .

Problem: I was playing WC3: FTF (original cd) when I encountered:

FATAL ERROR!....x0000005, can not 'read' from memory (I can't exactly remember the other words and alpha-numeric numbers)

On another occassion, I encountered this problem:

FATAL ERROR!...xc0000005, can not 'write' memory.

When I look at the D-LED bracket diagnostics of MSI, it doesn't show any configuration that points to a bad memory module/memory failure or badly-installed memory module.


So, my questions are:

1) does anybody out there know what "memory" this error message is referring to? I mean, is it the virtual memory, physical RAM modules or the video card's DDR memory module?

2) does this error message pertain to the L2 cache 'memory' of my Athlon XP 2200+?

3) does it mean I have a bad memory module?

4) is this more a windows-based problem or WC3-based bug?

Any advice, help or suggestion would be appreciated.

Since you're using two sticks from different manufacturers, i suspect a RAM-issue...i doubt this is L2-cache related in any way.

Are you experiencing any other memory/stability issues?
Try to relax your RAM-timings a bit for a start and run memtest86(search on google) to make sure your RAM is OK.
Also, did you get this error once/several times/always when playing WC3?

This is the 3rd or 4th time it happened. It also showed up once when I was playing NBA LIVE 2003.

Same thing..."x0000005 can not 'write' on memory" stuff

When I boot up the system (during POST), the memory count shows correctly. Even if I check it in the Windows system information and Norton Utilities system information, it shows 512mb RAM.

I already tried setting the CAS latency (dunno if I got that right ) to 3 for stability but the problem persists.

Anyway, I'll try to download memtest86 and see if my memory modules have any problems.

ey, just test with only one module of RAM, as greyhound said, using two sticks from different manufacturers may caused that problem
