I had problems with my Hard disk... and I had to change it.. .well I bought one... and is installed now...
I wanted to install the QuickRestore CD'S but in the Compaq Technical Support told me when I change the hardware... there is a tatooh that don't let me install the original software... so I opted to install with a Windows XP Professional CD...
Well the case is this... with the QuickRestore CD'S I haven't problems with respect the fans... there are in optimal conditions... but when I installed my CD the fans sound hard.. and increase the temperatura dramatically... (not using a lot of system resources)
I though the noise will quit the next day for installing the Windows software this day but it continues..
I tried to install the SpeedFan but it doesn't function.
Are you positive this is the CPU fan you are hearing? When you insert the CD into the drive, you may be hearing the CD drive spinning up rapidly (that is to be expected), rather than the CPU fan, or a fan. Has the noise been taking place since you re-installed Windows, or before then?
Speedfan or 3rd party programs probably will not function or not function properly on OEM machines, due to the lack of 'functionality' they provide to the end-user.
