I've got a problem with my new Athlon XP 3000+
If I run it at 2.17GHz, standard speed, then my PC switches off without any warning, usually within 30 seconds of being switched on an certainly if I start any CPU intensive task.
It runs perfectly well at 1.3 GHz with no problems at all.
During recently hot spell the CPU was hitting 75 degrees C, which I was surprised about as I've not seen a CPU get that hot before. I put on a different heatsink/fan but that didn't make any difference.
Any ideas?

You using a good cooler desinged for AMD XP socket A processors? And are you using any thermal paste? stock TIM pad? and please post all system specs. Your system is probably restarting because it is hitting the 85C thermal shutdown marker. 75C is wayy to hot to be running at.

hi what heatsink and fan have u got on your cpu. if its 1 that came with the chip bin it and get a decent cooler. im running an artic cooler copper silent 2L and it keeps my 3000 at 38C idle and about 42C under load, also the reason why its probably shutting down is that most boards u can set a shutdown temp in the bios have a look there and see what temp that is set 2. if there isnt 1 then the board is probably set to shut down at 80C thats why if u try to do something that puts load on the cpu it shuts down. have a look at your psu as well if its a 300w psu u are going to need at least a 350w or more depeding on how much hardware u have inside your pc.
