512MB PC2700 (i added a stick of 256MB, there's no BIOS beeps)
40GB
2 optical drives which are both working
9600 Pro (i'm using onboard video because i get no signal with the 9600 Pro)
ASUS board but not sure which model

I boot up the pc and all i get is a flashing cursor in the top left hand corner of the screen.

As soon as i press F1 the cursor goes away and the screen stays black until i turn off the pc.

I double checked to see if all cables were plugged in properly and they're.

There are no BIOS beeps or any other sound.

Any suggestions?

Have you tried each memory stick on its own? You can't get into the BIOS setup?
Is the graphics board still in the slot?

It would be useful to know which motherboard you have.

Here's an update on my compaq pc problem.

I tried each stick of ram on its own and still the same result.

I removed the 9600 Pro and still the same result.

I pressed ctrl+alt+delete and it brought me to a compact main screen and i had 2 options, 1 was to press F10 which is for system recovery and it brought me back to the screen with the flashing cursor. The other option was F1 which is to enter setup.

I pressed F1 and i was able to get into BIOS. In BIOS the boot device priority was wrong as it had the floppy as the first, the cdrom as the second, and the hard disk as the third. I changed them to as follows, hard disk, cdrom, and floppy.

I also found out why i wasn't getting a signal from the 9600 Pro, it was because onboard video was set to PCI so i changed it to AGP.

I exited BIOS and saved the changes as well.

I got the same screen with the flashing cursor and now i was going to call it a night but i decided to go back into BIOS as i might of overlooked an option.

I found a feature called "boot diagnostic screen" in BIOS and it was disabled so i enabled this option and exited and saved the changes from BIOS.

So now BIOS is detecting the CPU, ram, hd, keyboard and mouse but it won't go any further.

I pressed F1 to enter setup and it shows "Entering Setup" and it just hangs there.

This is how far i can go as of right now.

Any suggestions?

I would keep the boot order as it was: floppy,cd,hdd. If there is no disk in the floppy or cd drive, it will boot from the hard disk.

What's the Model number of the Compaq (I assume you mean Compaq). If we knew that we might find out what the motherboard is.

Try disconnecting the optical drives. How are the drives set up?
You should have the hdd as primary master and the two optical drives on the secondary channel; one master, one slave.

Does the board have on-board graphics? Is on-board graphics enabled?

Yes i mean Compaq but it's early in the morning and i haven't slept.

The hd is the primary master, and both optical drives are connected properly as well.

The board does have onboard video and i did enable it as well.

I pressed esc and now it shows "Loading Boot Menu....." but this just hangs as well.

I can't get back into BIOS now to check other settings.

Problem solved, how you ask, i disconnected my Plextor dvd burner and my pc is now able to boot into windows. /blink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='blink.gif' />

I'm at a loss. Sorry. Have you tried contacting Compaq?

Maybe when everybody wakes up, you'll get the solution.
