they're not as good as they could be ,but the best i can do for now.

9 items coming your way.

i rotated them on the scanner so that if there was any difference in the way the light hit them that it might help to see better.

i do believe that they are completely aware of what they are selling/trying to sell. i find it very hard to believe that they would ship me two used (visually noticable) cpu's without knowing it. and when i asked if they were used they said 'no, it must have been scratched when we did our burn-in test' which i never requested they do, and they charge for that test, so do you think they actually did it when i did not pay for it?
i am glad to find a thread speaking out against them, for they are shady. i should have taken photo's of the first chip they sent me, even my friends who know nothing about computers looked at it and said it looked damaged. part of the core (on the side) was completely missing, just a black line where the metal once was.
i do hope you get your money back, but i would like to again suggest that you call your credit card company and tell them to stop payment. i am also interested to see if enetshoponline tells you that the cpu passed their tests and is fine, as they did to me. or if they just issue a refund, since this is a more serious case. i would also urge you to go to the betterbusinessbureau and report them, it only takes a few minutes, and if enough people complain, something will be done.
good luck, dave

i think it is going to get handled,DAVE.

i got another email from AMD, and i'll wait to see how involved they want to get with this.

i think that the vendor is aware of the trouble brewing.

they are an online member of the better business bereau.
and i did post a gripe at BBB.

AND I POSTED A GRIPE AT THE PRICE WATCH SITE TOO.

the vendor,
ENETSHOPONLINE.com,
just gave me their FEDEX account number to return the CPU for a full refund.

it is going to be picked up by FEDEX tomorrow morning.

i called the FEDEX phone number and the service rep. made the arraingements for me.

so , it's fixed, as far as the problem is concerned.
but i still don't have my athlon xp 3200+.

i'm using the xp3000+.

Z, a mobile will work great in your A7N8X-E Deluxe. Below are today's prices on mobiles at Newegg. Even the $78 XP-M2200+ can do better than XP3200+ performance as you can see in my signature. (218x11 is 2.4GHz or at least "XP3400+" Performance Rating.)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/...ist....chInDesc=mobile' ">http://www.newegg.com/Product/...c=xp&srchInDesc=mobile

I didn't see any XP3200+s for sale there today. Suppose the supply is drying up and it'll be hit or miss from now on. No matter, why not get the $78 version above!

The only "problems" with a mobile are that you must be able to manually set its multiplier, External CPU Freq (FSB) and vCore/CPU voltage. The A7N8X-E can do that easily.

Also the CPU won't be officially recognized by the BIOS and Windows (they will see it as an "Unknown CPU Type" but that won't cause any reliability or performance problems. (A Trats modded BIOS will solve that - it will be recognized as an "AMD Athlon XP-M".) Finally, you won't see the power rating like XP3200+, the speed of the CPU will be displayed instead - 2200MHz. My settings display "AMD Athlon XP-M 2400MHz".

Of course the more expensive XP-M2600+ is expected to be the better overclocker (above 2.4GHz) but if you want to stay within reason and cool temps, there's no reason to ignore the XP-M2200+ especially at $78.

THANKS, THE FEDEX GUY HASN'T GOTTEN HERE YET.
BUT I DID ASK THE VENDOR TO REPLACE THE CPU IN QUESTION WITH ONE THAT THEY KNOW IS GENUINE.
I JUST SENT THE REQUEST A FEW MINUTES AGO.

I JUST MIGHT GET MY CHOICE IN THE END HERE ANYWAY.

BUT I'LL HAVE AN EXTRA CPU LAYING AROUND NOT DOING ANYTHING.
'CAUSE I'LL TAKE OUT THE AMD ATHLON XP 3000+ FSB 400.

I HAVE THE xp3000+fsb333 in my ASUS A7V8X,if i put the one that i had bought for the other board when i got the bad one,3000+fsb400, in this a7v8x, i don't know that that will do any good.
it may not work right 'cause the fsb on the board is 333MHz.

right now, the A7V8X is running the 3000+333fsb and two sticks of pc3200 ddr400dimms and it's doing just fine as i type.

i just might test it and see what happens with that configuration/combination of h/w.

you know, quentin, we have come a long way from the huge computers that we used to have on the aircraft back in the '70's.

that CP-901 in the navy P-3C was so large and at the same time this little pocket computer that i use for addresses is more powerful than that thing was, yet we still prosecuted the soviet submarines and we were effective at it too.

MD,
i told tomshardwareguide about the issues of counterfeit cpu and their reply was that AMD isn't aware of the problem.

they are so aware, that my emails to investors relations are deleted at the server.
i wonder why that is?

i sent them links about the issue and by publicising this we could get enough attention worldwide to stop the selling of this modified trash labeled as AMD ATHLON XP3200+'S.

return emails indicate they will do a bit of looking into the issue.
