I was wondering the thoughts on how best to spend this 3 that's burning in my pocket. I want a new system with the best I can get.

Should I keep this XP Athlon 2400 or go with another proc. and board?

What should I do??????

Here's the skinny.

(Which I'd like to throw out the window........slowly... same as it acts) The drive is an ATA 133 with 8mb cache @7200rpm. It starts apps slowly but retrieves them very quick.

A Verto GeForce FX 5500 Agp 8x 128mb

524 Ram (2 chips)
Chip #1 256 pc2100 266mhz, Chip #2 256 pc 2700 333mhz

All sticking on a Soyo SYK7VMP2 board.
Powered by 400 watts

The board supports 333fsb, but does your memory? You could get a 333fsb barton xp in that case. Increase the size of the memory (1024MB). Get a faster AGP grahics card if you want game.

Also you forgot to mention a fairly important part of the system. i.e. the power supply.

But really you'd be better off putting the $300 towards a new platform. That would mean changing most of the parts(board, power supply probably, cpu, memory probably, graphics cards and hard disk if it's that slow).
