I am working on a friend's computer at home. He brought it to me because the screen would occasionally freeze up. I upgraded the video card driver (an NVIDIA GeForce4 MX440) and thought that had resolved the problem. I worked with the computer for 30-45 minutes after that without problems, then shut it down normally.

Today I tried to power it on, it froze, and then on reboot I get a BIOS level error message stating: "During the last boot up your system hung for an improper CPU speed setting. Your systems is working in safe mode. To optimize the system performance and reliability, make sure the CPU speed conforms to the specifications of your CPU."

Not quite sure where to go next. Any suggestions?

I will try that this weekend (unfortunately I'm at work now and don't have access to the box). Is there a utility I can run that will tell me all of the hardware, or is the best way just opening the system and recording what I see? He doesn't have any of his system documentation.

I ran Belarc Advisor, and it gave me some info, but not the motherboard components.
