Hey everyone, I'm new to the AMD Processors Forums.

I'm here to learn how to overclock my AMD Sempron 3100+ processor, hoping to get some at least better than ~1.8GHz... At least I can still play cod4 on this.

Here are my specs:
OS - Windows 7 RC, build 7100. 32-bit.
Processor - AMD Sempron 3100+, ~1.8GHz
Video Card - Nvidia GeForce 7800 GS - 256mb
Memory/RAM - DDR (don't know the exact number, tell me if I need it) - 2gb
Motherboard - Acer K8VM800MAE
Power Supply - 300W (tell me if more info is needed)

I know what you're thinking... "It's 2009, why does this noob still have this old processor!?" Meh, this computer is 5 years old and teh only things upgraded are the Memory/RAM and Video Card. I'm only 15 and all the places to get a job around here are Fast Food... which requires age 16 or older. Anyway...

So yes, I'm hoping to get this overclocked to at least 2.2GHz.

The trouble with semprons is the lack of L2 cache, which no amount of overclocking can change. You may be able to find a socket 754 Athlon64 going cheap which will give better performance.

Can you say why you want to overclock to 2.2GHz?

I would suggest you upgrade your power supply before doing anything else.

Well, I'm not going to spend any money on this machine. All my money is headed towards a new computer from http://ibuypower.com/. I can get an AMD Phenom II x4 955 Black Edition system with DDR3 memory for like $800.
Anyway, I'd like to get somewhere around 2.2GHz because I heard this processor can get up to that... and also because a lot of my games (CS:S, Cod4) have been running a little laggy since I've gotten Windows 7, and I love it. Don't just say, "Well, Windows 7 is still in beta and needs more GHz blah blah blah." because I've heard this before and I know, I just want to max out my performance with this until I get a new computer, which could range from a few months to a year.

Well, my parents own a Computer store where they sell parts and fix computers, so I know a bit. I recently saw an AMD Sempron 3200+ or something.... it had 2.0GHz. They may still have it. I asked at the time and they said it wasn't worth it. I'll experiment with this processor until I get it to work or fry it, lol.
