Hi all,
Well, I couldn't find the forums on Intel site like this forum to ask the question regarding Intel products.
I sent them a msg and waiting for the answer..
I hope experts here will guide me..
My question is:
I own Intel CA810E desktop board with Pentium - 3 550 MHz, 128 SD PC100 RAM, two (20+8) GB HDD.
My case support ATX. I'd like to upgrade this config. I'm student and can't afford new AMD 64 bit. Also here (India), I heard that AMD has increase the price of AthlonXP(32bit) processors!!

My Case doesn't support new Intel P-4 power supply so I'm thinking either for Celeron D or Sempron.

I have browsed AMD site and this forum for comparision of the two.
What would be the better one, I'm software engg student and would be using PC for all kinds of softwares loaded (like oracle, IDEs, Java IDEs, etc...)

Also does any one know, what is the maximum size of HDD my current M/B { Intel Desktop Board - CA810E )supports??? I couldn't find this on Intel...It would be very helpful..

Thanks...
- Nirav

810E chipset, if it will supports the 133 fsb was capable of supporting up to a 1.3 GHz P3, I had a "Brookings" P3 board with the latest bios...

Design guide may help you.

You may want to look into a socket 754 Sempron system, that way when the socket 754 cpu's drop a bit in price you can easilly upgrade to a socket 754 A64 cpu...

nirav: I'd avise against a Celeron, as they're poor performers and not cheap. Ignore the Semprons' model numbers; a Sempron 2800+ is actually the same speed as an Athlon XP 2500+; you're still better off with an 'Athlon XP'.

Umm, it's the Sempron 2600+ that's the same speed as the XP 2500+, the Sempron 2800+ is 2.0Ghz.

Hi all,
Thanks for answering...
Well, all are prefering Athlon Socket A > 2600+. i guess..not a sempron.

What would be the best m/b for that (AthlonXP 2600+ and above - Socket A)?

I am thinking of features like,
- On board Graphics (like my CA810E)
- On board Sound
- On board LAN
- On board RAID (if possible)
- AGP slot
On board Modem

Can anyone suggest a board that has all of the above mentioned features....also little bit economical...

Thanks,
- Nirav
