im thinking about getting a thoroughbred sempron 2800+, now changing it to 200MHz FSB would make it run at 2400MHz, im just wondering what are the chances it can handle that? EDIT: oh and will the stock heatsink handle it? XD

For 2.4 GHz, you will likely need a vcore increase. Possibly up to 1.85v, because of the already high multiplier.
And for that speed, I would not recommend using the stock cooler.

You will never reach 2.4ghz on stock, sorry, 2.0, 2.2ghz if your lucky, and can handle the high temps.

Ha,yeah it runs at 2.0GHz stock....I would see no reason why you couldnt get it to 2.4GHz,heck I have my old 2400 @ 2.19GHz stable...If you really want to get a budget cpu,that has very good overclockability,go with the sempron2600 754 chip....50% oc's w/ that chip(1.6GHz-2.6GHz) .Plus its cheaper then(its little brother)the socket A chip..

The 2800+ runs at 2000Mhz (12 x 166MHz). If your board & RAM can handle 200MHz (400FSB), the Sempron "should" be able to run at 2400MHz (12 x 200). Chances are, a vcore increase WILL be necessary. Always strive to run your CPU & RAM at the same bus speed. Running CPU at 200MHz & RAM at 166MHz hurts overall system performance.
To get my 2500+ to run at 2100MHz (10.5 x 200), I had to increase the vcore to 1.80v. The stock HSF will work fine. Stress test your overclocked settings using TOAST for about 30 min...if it survives, move on to Stress Prime 2004 (new version of Prime95). Always monitor your temps. If you can stay under 60C under loaded condiditons, you're good to go. If not, re-evaluate your cooling setup.
