Hello, I experienced problems to find a AMD Athlon XP2600+ in France today. My mobo is a A7N266 (NForce1) with 512Mb PC3200 memory. My BIOS is up to date (Rev 1005), wich indicates CPU freqs and multiplier higher than the max CPU recommended by Asus (Athlon XP2600+, FSB 266 MHz).
Can I replace my old Athlon XP1600+ with a Sempron Socket A on this mobo ? If I can do this, what is the max CPU frequency I can use ? Should I change Ram to reach correct stability ?
Thanks a lot for answers, sorry for my english /blush.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='blush.gif' />

The short answer is No. Sempron has 333mhz FSB. You will require a new motherboard if you get a sempron cpu Also your memory is a bit too fast for this board so is not working efficiently and is underclocking itself.
ps. your English is ok /smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' />

LDLC have xp-m2600 mobiles for 119euros. They can run at 133 x6 multiplier up to x15. That's what I bought. They cost a bit more but they are excellent processors.

Hi Jack
You're right, it's not cheap. Newegg sells them a lot cheaper. But this is France. I don't regret buying it, even at that price.

The Athlon XP 2600+ for 133/266MHz FSB is a very rare chip. The 2400+ Athlon XP for 133/266MHz FSB is far more common and easy to find.

The attraction of the xp-m2600 is you can run it at 200+ clock speeds on an Nforce2 board, so a future update is possible with some fast memory and a decent power supply.
It also has a 512kb L2 cache.
