I honestly don't think it's worth it, but a Via KM400A chipset should in theory support 200/400bus. So a 400fsb socket A xp3200 should work.

PC3200 memory(ddr400) and a reasonable power supply would be needed as well.

Spending money on ageing systems rarely pays off.

Thanks Bogey for your quick reply, much appreciated.

It's so true what you said about ageing systems, but the kids use it so guess it's OK, except they cannot view HD videos, they lag. That is the main reason i wanted to change the processor, thinking it would be faster.

I have added 1GB ram, Nvidia Geforce 6200 already..

Thanks

Sempron 2800: 12x166 - 2GHz, 256kb L2 cache.

XP3200/Socket A Sempron 3300(same cpu): 11x200 - 2.2Ghz, 512kb L2 cache.

Yes it's a bit faster.

Make sure the lag isn't a memory compatibility problem before forking out more dosh. Just try the 1 GB ram module on its own.

At what resolution, display size and what player is this HD content shown on?

This can be a GPU driver or VGA card problem also.

The 6200 AGP is a weakish card, especially if it is an LE version.

Here an example of 6200LE vs. ATI HD3450 AGP

I think the GPU offload for HD content will work better on say a HD3450.

Even better would be the HD4350 AGP, e.g.
