I've read the specs of Socket A Semprons and they look good. So how come they are cheaper than Athlon XP's if the specs are very good anyway?

The Athlon XP line is intended to compete with the Pentium 4 line, while the Sempron is a "value" chip designed to compete with Intel's Celeron line, of course it blows the Celeron straight to [content edited] and can give all but the best the P4 line has to offer a good run for it's money.
