I bought a sempron 2400+ and had it installed, but my soyo kt333 dragon lite motherboard only recognizes it as a 1ghz processor, not as a 2.4. I was told i need to flash the bios for the motherboard, but I don't know what speed the motherboard will support, so i can figure out if it's worth it to flash or just buy a new motherboard. Please, someone be nice and help me out so i don't take a shotgun to this god-forsaken machine. thank you, jason

The Sempron 2400+ runs at a 166MHz FSB, 10x multiplier. Looks like what's happening is that your motherboard's running it at 10x100MHz.

It's a little more complicated than a simple FSB issue, unfortunately. Like a lot of KT333 boards, the KT333 Dragon Lite doesn't officially support a 166MHz FSB, and overclocking up to that would be a risky proposition. You're welcome to try setting the FSB straight to 166MHz and hoping that it boots (if it doesn't, unplug the PC, pop the CMOS battery-- little coinlike lithium battery just to the right of the bottom PCI slots, count to ten, put the battery back in, plug it in, power on), but if that doesn't work or if you really don't want to overclock, you have two choices: run it below stock speed (probably at 133x10 / 1.33GHz), or return it and get an Athlon XP 2400+ (133x15, should work OK in there). Sorry.
