Just built a new box tonight with and ECS Motherboard 741GX-M ,which is supposed to be Sempron Compatible right outta the box....

Have Sempron 2400+ installed and 512MB of PC2700 333MHz RAM (generic) installed...

POST screen lists processor speed as 1000MHz.....

Downloaded and ran the AMD CPU checker program and it says processor
running at 1002 MHz.....

Where's my 1.667 GHz.....??

Should I be returning the processor in the morning....??

All efforts to change the speed within the BIOS have resulted in no joy.....

Advice....??

Hmm, it should be running a FSB of 166 (333DDR) with a multiplier of 10. What is the vcore set at? Also, post the rest of your system specs (gives us a better idea of what is wrong and how to go about fixing it).

Motherboard is all in one - Video /Sound /LAN
only other things attached to mobo is HDD , floppy and CD...
No peripheral cards....

http://www.ecsusa.com/products/741gx-m.html' ">http://www.ecsusa.com/products/741gx-m.html

VCore Voltage 1.55 Volts....

Frequency / Voltage Control BIOS screen looks like this:

Auto Detect DIMM/PCI Clk [Enabled]
Spread Spectrum [Enabled]
CPU Frequency [100]
CPURAM Frequency Ratio [Auto]
DRAM Frequency 166 Mhz

That's all there is to it....
Changing the CPU Frequency (it goes from 100 to 254) changes the ratio
and consequently the DRAM Frequency , but what numbers I should be using
are a mystery to me.....
Everything I've tried still results in 1000MHz....

Ideas..??

QUOTE (Galaxy Master @ Sep 20 2004, 09:54 PM) CPU Frequency [100]

That should be set to 166.

OK set it to 166 , saved and exited BIOS ,still no joy...

went back into BIOS it had reverted to default (100)

so i changed it again to 166 , then hit F10 to save it...
it exited BIOS , and now it reads correctly........1.66 GHz....

AMD program reads it as 1.662....close enough to 1.667 I guess....

Seems to be holding....

DRAM frequency says 133 MHz.....my memory is 333 MHz stuff...
is this kosher..??
this thing is supposed to be 333 FSB....
or am I not understanding all that ....??

(This is only my 3rd AMD machine , I'm usually an Intel man , so things
are a little different than what I'm used to....)

Otherwise , problems seems to be solved.....

Thanks for your insight and help...
