Having the following problem, could anyone please help :
System Specs : Asus A7V8X-MX SE rev 1005 Bios updated DDR 333 512MB RAM Sempron 2800+ CPU
What happens : System boots (only when the FSB is set to 100 MHz though, other options are 133 and 166). As soon as you try and install either Win98 or WinXP the system shuts itself down automatically.
CPU aint overheating : running at 40 C. Does anyone have any idea ? Would really appreciate some help on this one. Thanks

Zodan from South Africa Please list your other system specs.
Also whats the true capacity of your power supply? What I mean by that is not whats written on the side like "400W" I mean
what are the amperage (A) specs for each voltage on the side of the power supply for: 3.3V +5V +12V +5VSB
These are the minimum recommended in the AMD desktop builders guide. +3.3V = 28A +5.0V = 30A +12.0V = 15A->18A +5VSB = 2A->2.5A

Physics? Ha! This is clearly magic and devilry at work. Prepare firewood! We have witches to burn!
We figured out the problem eventually. Feel very ashamed. The termal protection was kicking in the whole time because the heatsink wasn't installed correctly.
To answer your question MD : It did have the minimum compliance for power that you mentioned in another post. All be it that it was a close shave : 12 V giving 15 A.
Thank you all.. just another humbling experience showing the power of cooling solutions and the great thing called thermal protection which if it wasn't there would have caused a perfectly ok CPU to start smoking like a Lamborgini Diablo wheelspinning in 1st.
My sincere apologies for ranking ya'all's brains with this one.
