i have a dead amd duron pro trying to find out how to get in touch with somebody to see if it is still under warranty

"Duron Pro" as in the PCChips motherboards with CPUs soldiered onto the motherboard?

If it is what eddaweaver refers to, it will likely read "Pro1400+" (or some other number) on the CPU fan and in the BIOS. These are OEM chips installed by the motherboard manufacturer. Warranty would be from the motherboard manufacturer or distributor. Possibilities are:

PCCHIPS
ECS
Amptron
Kobian (Mercury)
EagleTEC
Elpina
probably others.

Let us know if you need help identifying your motherboard or troubleshooting to see if its really dead.
