Sorry I don't know your board.

But a socket A sempron needs pc2700 at least. If your board supports pc3200, get that. Its faster and often cheaper to buy.

Your power supply may need replacing if it's old.

You need to change the "Clear CMOS" jumper to the right position. All PCChips MBs have it set to clear.

Oops...you already did this.

Does the MB require both PS cables to be connected (the 20 pin and the 4 pin)?

Take the MB out of the case, and try it then. You may have a short in the case.

You really should move to PC2700 to take advantage of the Sempron's FSB.

Is this the Sempron2800+ special they were having the other day?

Do a minimal build & set your bus speed to 133 until you get the correct memory...

Ram types VS cpu types.
Memory:

PC3200 = DDR400 memory is required when setting the FSB clock to 200. 400 Bus. ie XP3200+
PC2700 = DDR333 memory is required when setting the FSB clock to 166. 333 Bus. ie XP2500+, Socket A Semprons
PC2100 = DDR266 memory is required when setting the FSB clock to 133. 266 Bus. ie XP2400+, Duron 1.6 & 1.8
PC1600 = DDR200 memory is required when setting the FSB clock to 100. 200 Bus. ie Athlon 1.4 (200) Duron 950

Hi,

I just bought the same bundle a couple of days ago. I had the same problem until I saw that I hadn't connected the 4 pin PS connector.

I have another issue though. The salesman at Fry's told me that the M825G mobo wouldn't support the full capabilities of the Sempron 2500+ until I flashed the bios. So far, he's correct. On the system properties>general tab, it shows that the thing is an Athlon running at 1.05 Ghz. Not sure what the Sempron i2500+ is supposed to run at, but I figured it was about 1.8-1.9 Ghz.

Anyhow, my problem is that I've only done a bios update once - a long time ago - and I don't remember how to do it. The mobo's site - pcchips - seems to offer no help at all. I downloaded the file to do the update - it's a ROM file, is that correct? - but could sure use some help on how to proceed.

Thanks a lot,
Gary

The Sempron 2500+ runs at 1750 MHz using a 166 FSB and 10.5 multiplier. Yours is set for 100 FSB (100 x 10.5 = 1050 MHz = 1.05 GHz.)

Set the motherboard jumpers for 166 FSB. The manual shows how.

This should run fine with the original BIOS. It may not identify it as a Sempron or show the right rating, but you should get the full 1750 MHz. It may require a BIOS update to actually say "Sempron," but that's only a cosmetic issue and personally, I wouldn't take the risk of a BIOS flash just for that.

John

John,

That did the trick. It shows 1.75 Ghz now, and also says it's a Sempron - not that I especially cared about that. Sure glad I stopped by here before I flashed the bios for no reason!

Actually, I thought I had it set at 1.66 FSB, but I was looking at the jumper from the wrong angle I guess when I eyeballed the diagram in the manual.

One more question? I have a 512 MB, PC2700 stick installed, but it shows up as 480 in system properties. Is that because it's being sucked down by the shared/onboard video?

Dang, the jumper change made a *huge* difference. It was real sluggish before, even the internet connection seemed real slow, but it's much better now.

Thanks very much!
Gary

Hi Gary,

I'm glad that took care of it.

Yes, the other 32MB is used for onboard video. The amount is adjustable in the BIOS.

Yea I bought the same thing. The Instructions to the mobo sucked though. 1st time putting one to gether. But everything seems to be working fine. It shows Sempron 2500 1.75GHz and 480 MB of Ram!!!!!! /biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' />

My question is, what should the temp be. Just got done installing a modem this morning and went back to look at the temp.System is 36 deg. C and CPU is 63 deg. C Is this good or to hot?

thank you.

63C is way too hot . What's your motherboard?

Are you using an AMD heatsink?

When you installed the heatsink did you remember to remove the plastic protective strip over the green thermal pad?

I would check your heatsink installation. Have some thermal paste or a replacement thermal pad available before you start.

I have found that my cpu is slightly cooler use thermal paste. I use arctic cooling silicone but most people here recommend arctic silver5.

My idle temp is around 40C and just touches 50C when running prime95.

So you have removed the heatsink, right?

Here's where you can download the heatsink installation video

Well I think you need to check it.

60C is normally the max temp under full load.

You can use paste instead of the pad. Clean each face with alcohol. Watch the other videos on that link.

OK bogey Thanks again. I decided to try the thermal past by buddy left over here. He built my game computer for me. This one is for family, but I didn't relize my buddy was going out of town. But hey I've seen him buils two why cant I. Well I think I had the fan on 180 deg. wrong. I aplied the past, ran spybot and adaware to put a small load on it and it only got to 48 deg C. Much better than the 63 deg. C before. Now I put in Starwars to play awhile and check it out. So thanks again. I'm much relieved now /biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /> /biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /> /biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' />
