Ok, this is an emachines box that i recently did a full restore for a customer. Its using a Sempor 3000+ on a K7MNF-64 nForce2 chipset.

He complains that a day or so after he received the computer back, he tried to install his HP printer, the computer locked up, and never restarted. So far, this is what I've done. I want to make sure I am not forgetting anything before I send this back to him.

Symptoms : When you press power on, power LED is lit, hsf spins. No BIOS beep codes whatsoever.

I have taken everything out, where the only thing on the mobo is the cpu/hsf. Still a no go.. could this cpu be dead ?

Try the basics...Jumper (if any) in correct positions ie clear bios jumper...
bench build with different PSU...emachines psu's are rated kind of low, but just enough to get by.
bench build with different CPU...may be damaged?
bench build with different RAM...3rd tier ram? may have died.
etc...
Most emachines boxes use off the shelf parts so that makes life a tad easier..

Good Luck
