Ok so i brought a sempron 3000 mother board i was woundering if i can put an intell pentium D CPU in it or do i need one made by AMD

No, you can't. Motherboards are usually designed for ONE TYPE of CPU usually designated by the CPU manufacturer and the socket type. So you need an AMD CPU with a socket of the type on the Sempron 3000 (I believe it to be socket 754). The best thing to do is go the website for the manufacturer of your motherboard and lookup the specs for your specific mobo ...

Actually there is an AM2 socket version of the sempron 3000...

And AMD doesn't do boards

I know there is, but I highly doubt someone who has just bought a cpu would have got a socket A !!

I don't pretend to know all of the AMD line, but the little I know involves socket A

It's surprising how many people are still buying Socket A after all these years. It looks like it's outlasted Socket 754! There are hundreds of auctions of Socket A on ebay. A good XP CPU can go for more than some 939 CPUs. Don't ask me why!

The AGP port of my secondary motherboard seems fried anyway so...
