Greetings, everyone.
I have a socket A Sempron 3300+ that I've had for 4 months. In the last couple weeks, I've noticed a chronic increase in the idling temperature. In the last couple days, the BIOS of my board has been shutting off my system because the CPU has been reaching the shutdown temperature, set for 149 degrees Fahrenheit.
I am curious to know if anyone has run into this and/or if anyone has any insight in regards to what is happening. I bought the processor used, but I've had no issues until this weekend.
I have an EPoX EP-8KRAI Pro motherboard, with a VIA KT880 chipset. I have a Thermaltake Volcano 10 for my heat sink, upgraded from some generic copper plated heat sink. I have excellent ventilation, with an 80mm fan in the front and a 120mm fan in teh back. The front fan runs at about 2600 RPM and the back is a 3-speed I currently have on high (1800 RPM). The CPU fan runs at about 5000 RPM. If you need more details, just ask.

Where are you posting from? What's the ambient temperature at the moment?
Where did you get the processor?
What is the current Vcore in the hardware monitor of the bios? It should be around 1.6V.

Ambient temperature according to the BIOS is 77 degrees Fahrenheit. I bought the processor used from someone on the nVidia SLI forums. I have examined the chip and verified it to be authentic. CPU core voltage is 1.65V as per spec.

First make sure the heatsink is correctly installed and making good contact with the cpu core. Sometimes people fit them the wrong way round which is easy to do. Worth checking.

I learned that the hard way 2 years ago when trying a heat sink on backwards. I am certain it is properly installed, and I always double check that on every heat sink I mount.

It can't possibly get to that temperature with the HS correctly installed and fan working. Make sure the fan spins and that there's contact between the HS and CPU. An you used thermal grease, right ?

It could be a motherboard issue possibly.

I ad to ad lots of antic to the core as it hardly touches.
you be best of getting a cool sink that sits snug on the core
