14X opteron in a dual opteron board?
will it work.

I want to buy a good dual opteron board, but only buy a relativly cheap single opteron....and then at some point in the future buy a pair of fast dual opeterons

eg say 142 opteron now, and in then 6 months buy a single 248 to replace the 142 and then buy another 248 some months later to complete the job.

Basicly will a dual opteron board takework with single/single opteron?

Nope. The 1xx series Opterons only have 1 HT enabled and that link is reserved for the I/O.
