Well I personally hope, that this is an intermediate error. I guess that (as of today) these are prices for the S939 Opteron CPUs. The prices are matched to the corresponding Athlon64 CPUs. This is ok, as AMD is naturally aware, that in any other case all overclockers(i.e. people who know) will buy an Opteron 152 for $417, instead of an AthlonFX-55 for $799 ...
Hardware sites / magazines will soon cover that "save money by buying professional products" issue, so everybody will know /smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' />
So in my opinion, the cheap prices (of Aug, 1st) are the S940 Opterons 100, the new prices (Aug, 2nd) are valid for the new S939 socket Opterons 100, only.
But I honestly cannot prove that, it is up to AMD to clarify that issue.
