I've ordered a case with a wind tunnel' ">http://www.newegg.com/app/View...description=11-163-032, as pictured here:

The plastic half-tube, that can be seen on the lower part of the picture should form nice air-flow above my two Opterons and their memory banks. With that in mind, do I still need the CPU fans, or can I just put good heat sinks (like Thermalright's XP-120' ">http://www.newegg.com/app/View...description=35-109-118 or XP-90' ">http://www.newegg.com/app/View...description=35-109-119) and leave it to the case's fans to cool them? I want the box to be quiet...

Thanks!

i would think that ou'd still need a little more concentrated airflow on the cpu's... maybe not a TT Volcano 12 but something that moves air... i'd say passive will run a bit hotter than you'd want it to.

By the way, what's the top of the thermal "comfort zone" and how fast will an Opteron die if it exceeds that by, say, 10C? By 20C? Thanks!

the limit is 70C... you coild run it anywhere up to that... but i'd say 65C and up is beginning to risk too much. if you average in the 50's under high load, then you are fine.
