Hey, if you've heard otherwise ignore this, but I think that AMD only makes the HE in the 246 flavor Opteron. There is no 248HE Opteron. Sorry!

The 246HE, however, is the same as above, only 2Ghz instead of 2.2

And how you call this then?' ">http://www.amd.com/us-en/Proce...6,00.html?redir=CPPL01 Greyhound should be able to provide detailed specifications (Incluiding Revision and Code Codename), it can be a Revision E Opteron supporting SSE3. Not sure though.

The Opteron 248HE is indeed a rev. E4 part (90nm SOI 'Troy'-core, Model 25, rev. SH8-E4) clocked at 2.2GHz - the appropriate OPN (Ordering Part Number) is 'OSK248FAA5BL' or 'OSK248BLBOX' for a retail/boxed part.

Like ALL of the new rev. E4 Opterons, it supports faster 1000MHz (2000MHz effectively) Hypertransport-links and like ALL 200 series Opterons it has three HT-links, one of which *can* be coherent (for CPU-to-CPU communication, up to 2-way).

Instruction-set wise, it has the same specs as any other Opteron processor (3DNow! Professional, SSE2 and of course AMD64) plus SSE3-support (ALL revision E parts support SSE3).

Memory- and board/chipset-support are identical to any other Opteron:
It supports registered DDR-SDRAM (184-pin DIMM) with any standard speedgrade (i.e. PC1600/PC2100/PC2700/PC3200) - using PC3200 (DDR400) memory is recommended for optimum performance, tho.

Platform-wise, it'll work on any single- or dual-Socket 940 motherboard with BIOS-support for revision E parts (refer to the manufacturer's compatibility-lists or directly contact the manufacturer of the motherboard of your choice).

If you have any further questions, feel free to ask

Well, a few weeks ago they hadn't announced it (otherwise I might have bought one instead of my 2 246's) And, they don't have it on the pricing lists yet either.

AMD is sneaky like that!

Any word on retailers that currently have the new 90nm SOI Opterons in stock besides the x52 series? Thanks!
