People have been talking about that overclocking will shorten the life of a CPU. I wonder what is actually killing the CPU? Heat? Or the higher frenquency? CPU doesn't have any mechanical parts, what makes a CPU worn out?
I have an Opteron 170, overclocked to 250 * 10, HT 4x. Asus A8N-SLI Premium. From the Asus Probe, idle temperature is 40C (34C if Cool & Quiet) and 52C when fully loaded on two cores with prime95. Is this looked alright?
AMD says that the max temperature for this CPU is 65C, is this case temperature or core temperature? Is the temperature reported by my motherboard the case or core temperature?
