I thought I had read somewhere that it is possible to mix Opterons due to HT separating the sockets although depends on the mobo and bios. Can't recall exactly which doc but think it was an AMD one which suggested the possiblity.

Anyone tried before or AMD can comment/confirm?

With Intel's FSB, I can see why might even have to use same stepping. With AMD, perhaps have to consider factors such as thermal char due to bios.

But must Opt200 or 2000 use same stepping? If not strictly necessary, what are the constraints that must be similar? Same watt? Same HT freq? Same frequency? Same type (both must be single or dual core)? Can mix single and dual-core?
I am hoping it is possible, and would be using a Tyan mobo with Nvidia chipset.

I wonder how Windows would behave if there were 3 cores?
