Hi dudes,

a little bit of opinion from u guys, will be getting a new CPU this wednesday and need some suggestions on which one to get as i understand that the difference between them mainly lies with the CPU speed of 200mhz. However, i understand that the 165 is more of a value for money processor as it can easily be overclocked to speed close enough to a FX-60, what about the 170 in this case, would it be as overclockable as the 165 and if it is, it will definately surpass the FX-60 right???

If im to get the opteron 165 which stepping should i get? as i have gone to the shop to look at it and dont seem to find the indication of the type of stepping, as i understand different stepping has got different overclockability
Have been googling around for some time now but dont seem to find much info and reviews from Opteron processors

BTW Price difference between the 2 is about US$80

Thanks guys for the info

firstly, it seems the newer ones oc really well. Week 50 so the numbers on the second line would contain 0550. (year/week)

they would top out at about the same speed.
if the $80 isn't a big deal, go for the 170

Thanks for the reply, think i m going with the opteron 170, however i am wondering if the 170 is as overclockable as the 165, as i understand that there are instances that most 165 can overclock 1ghz past its defualt clock speed, what about the opteron 170 can they overclock very much like the 144 & 165 ??

Thanks again for any advice

yeah, they both tend to top out around the same, but because of the 165s lower stock clock, it has a higher OC percentage...

but i say 170, 10x helps a lot
