First of all, I'm a serious builder as you can tell by the current FX rig in my sig. However I've never built and Opteron rig and I want to build the sickest dual 248 rig out there! Funds are not a consideration as my company is funding it

Now first of all the Opteron 248 is the top-of-the-line right now correct? When does the new 2.4GHz Opteron hit, when the FX-53 does? Also is the 248 a dual-channel processor like the FX series? I plan on using only 4GB's of it's 16GB capacity right now, 1GB per-channel, in other words a super low latency stick of 512MB DDR400 in each slot, all matched pairs, I'm thinking the same Mushkin RAM I have in my FX rig. Once there are 1GB DDR400 modules with a 2-3-2 latency then I'll upgrade to 8GB's, a 1GB stick in each slot.

I also want to run dual 15,000RPM SCSI's on RAID 0 if not an array of 4.

What motherboards are available out there that will fit my specs? I'd definantly love to have on-board SCSI RAID, like the Thunder K8S Pro & Thunder K8SR.

Also am I just blind, are there no AGP slots on the above mentioned boards? All I see are PCI-X slots? I'm not going to be using it as a server, it's going to be a super high-end desktop.

Am I incorrect on anything? What do you recommend as far as motherboards and 15,000RPM SCSI's drives?

Thanks!

Always a good start

Correct, unless you consider the 848 (same speed as a single unit, just 4/8 way rather than just 2 way).

Correct. Registered memory remember.

Yep, the Tyan series will definitely fit your needs.

No you're not blind, those boards just have onboard graphics and PCI/PCI-X slots. Since they're considered server boards not many people require a better graphics card than that. If you want AGP you'll have to either get one of the workstation boards or wait for the PCI-X series of graphics cards to come out.

Good luck and enjoy your beast of a machine!

Awesome, thanks for the info!!!

Actually according to Tyan's web site they do in fact say PCI-X and NOT PCI Express...

How about some more info on the SCSI drives. 15,000 is the fastest right now correct? Who makes the fastest and highest bandwidth ones avilable right now? I don't need space, just speed as you can see by the dual Raptor 74's I'm running now.

I also assume the Tyan boards support SCSI Raid as an option, their web site was not very specific from what I could see. Now following this track what if I wanted to run say an array of 4 SCSI drives all on RAID to double the speed & throughput of only 2 SCSI'c on RAID, I would need a controller card fro that right, the Tyan's can't do that I don't think...

Tyan also makes a board that has AGP.
Thunder K8W (S2885)' ">http://www.tyan.com/products/html/thunderk8w.html
Buy here.' ">http://www.newegg.com/app/View...120&catalog=302&depa=1
It may not have SCSIs but it has 4 inexpensive SATAs.
SATAs can reach pretty high speeds like the SCSIs.
So if you want to sacrifice some Hard Drive speed, you can get a pretty good video card.
With endless cash, I would either get the GeForce FX 5950' ">http://www.newegg.com/app/View...-108&catalog=48&depa=0 or the Quadro FX 3000G' ">http://www.newegg.com/app/view...tion=14-133-102&depa=1.
