ok, so, for those of you interested i did some fan header checking tonight.
here's what i sent off to TYAN Tech:
QUOTE xxx, I was revisiting a fan discrepancy I had earlier and have some results for you.  The on-board fans headers, 1-3 are fine, no shock.  Fan 5 is on that winbond chip and won't recognize a certain fan speed window as we've noticed, so that’s fine too.  BUT fan headers 4 and 6, with bios 2.02b, the FAN4 header is recognized as FAN6 in the bios, and vice versa.  Yet TSM v2.24, has FAN4 as FAN4 and FAN6 as FAN6, so that's a little bit of a help.

Also, here is a small breakup between the 2.02b bios(left) and TSM(right), with FAN4-and 6 corrected with respect to above mentioning:
CPU0-TEMP:  45C  39C
CPU1-TEMP:  0C  0C  (NO-CPU)
Board-Temp: 27C  34C
FAN1:  3360rpm 2760rpm
FAN2:  2600rpm 2580rpm (NO-CPU, alternate fan using fan header)
FAN3:  2640rpm 2580rpm
FAN4:  2730rpm 2640rpm
FAN5:  0rpm  0rpm  (no fan installed)
FAN6:  2710rpm 2640rpm

The only real concerns I have are the under/over reporting of the cpu/system temps, the FAN1 temp difference, and FAN4+6 swappage.  In regards to FAN1 and temps, the room ambient air was 22C throughout the 4hrs of checking the temps, it ran at idle for at least 45min before noting temps.  Both temps were checked twice for redundancy.  The fan on FAN1 is a ThermalTake Volcano12 which is set at full-bore speed (no thermal sensor, just a jumper), and in the bios, no duty-cycle is set either.  Yet, there is a decent temperature difference between bios 2.02b and TSM v2.24, any ideas?

I've tried bios 2.02w but don't like the lack of duty-cycle option.  I didn't get a chance to test the fan header discrepancy so I can't comment on that.  And with regards to the temps, haven't checked that either, maybe with the next bios release.
soooooooo, what does all this mean, nothing really to those who dont use all available resources this boaerd has but its just more info for those looking for answers.

Note, I have a rev.A motherboard from TYAN.

just an update... TYAN Tech response:
QUOTE (TYAN Tech Support)I know the latest beta on the website fixes the fan header # issue.  The rest I will pass along to the bios engineers and see if they have any comments or suggestions about when something can be changed with the next bios.
The "latest beta" he refers to is 2.02w for those of you wondering.

Interesting, but I suggest that you upgrade to the 2.02w beta bios and retest this too. I did this and all fans runs now at max speed and the fan adjustment options are missing.

I wonder why they did this and if they'll add PowerNow! support anytime soon?

i wont do 2.02w BECAUSE of the fan setting missing. so, at some point w/ the next bios, they'll have the 'duty cycle' back in there andi'll update then.
