Out of curiosity, would it be possible to use the 2347 in a single-processor configuration, or is it only possible to use it in a dual-processor setup?

It's possible to use as a single processor, but if that's the case, then you should probably consider waiting for the Socket AM2 Opterons if AMD releases them for Barcelona.

Thanks; I'd heard of the single-processor models being under the code name "Bucharest." The system I'm considering is still in the planning stages, but I'll keep this in mind. (By the time I can scrounge together enough money for the parts, it'll probably be out already)

In which application is single processor useful ?
I have a job that takes lengthy time to be run because iterating big matrices computation.
The intention is to run this job day and night as ONLY TASK running.
Multiple processor cores in this case could speed up a little bit by parallelizing instructions in a loop, however the (probable) small improvement would be not worth considering that with single processor enables more Ghz.
Your opinion ?
Gian
