I have a dual 4284 processor server and its performance is worse than a single 4184 server. It is even worse than a dual 2376 server and significatly worse than a dual 2439 server, all of which are slower processors.

Any idea why this processor is worse than prior generations?

I have removed 1 of the dual 4284 processors and replaced the 4184 single processor with the 4284 I removed. The performance of both single 4284 is still worse than the 4184, but the singles are better than the dual.

Very strange. Any ideas.

In case it help all MB are Supermicro.
The dual 2439 is on a H8DMU+
The Single 4184 is on a H8SCM-F
The Dual 4284 is on a H8DCL-6F

The removal of one 4284 from the Dual setup results in:
Dual 2439 on H8DMU+
Single 4284 on H8SCM-F
Single 4284 on H8DCL-6F

The H8SCM-F is still faster than the H8DCL-6F
in both cases.

I'm not familiar with the server-class CPU's or multi-CPU motherboards but others will most likely want to know what you are basing your faster/slower statements on, i.e. what benchmark or application are you using that is showing the performance differences?

For comparision all system were running Win 7 x64.
The application being used to make the assesment is FAH v7.1.52

For perspective this is also being run on a Supermicro H8DGU-F with dual Opteron 6174 CPUs for a total of 24cores, and the result show that the App is perfectly capable of scaling as more cores are made available.
