Is there a known incompatibility with running optical drives in DMA mode on 8111 chipsets? I have tried an Arima HDAMB and a Tyan 2885 and neither will run a DVD/RW in DMA mode.

I don't know if this will help or not but I have a Lite-on DVD reader only and the chipset made it UDMA2. The drive is listed as a JLMS-XJ-HD166S. I know it's not a DVD burner but that's the only optical drive I have on the EIDE controller. I have a DVD burner connected to the firewire connection but that is rather useless for helping you out. But in case anyone is wondering, the firewire connection in W2003 Enterprise Server works on my S2885 for burning DVDs.
