i repost this message from tyan newsgroup n hope to get some feed back here.

We need to bring in 4-units of TA-26 2u barebone with Dual Opteron 248, check with the website and manual, seems like this model does not come with cpu cooler. Can anyone confirm this? If no cooler come with the barebone, what cooler is recommended for this 2U barebone, passive or active, is the box Opteron stock heat sink fan suitable?

Also has anyone tried Adaptec SCSI RAID 2015S (ZCR/Memory Slot Type) on this barebone which use Thunder K8S Pro S2882 Board. The question is, can it be use? or there is any other suggestion.

get a good quality cpu cooler for you socket (you didnt specify which one it was). I like thermaltake, but there are plenty of other good manufacturers. Dont forget the thermal compound... the lates arctic silver would be the best... i think its arctic silver 5.

@Terry: Sorry, I have never seen one of these Tyan systems in real life. Passive coolers need a very high air flow. So IF you have really strong fans inside the case and you find some nice passive heatsinks (not the flat ones for 1U) you may try it.

I have a 3U chassis and the HSFs from the BOXed version of the CPUs. The free space between the HSFs and the case above the CPUs seems to be higher than 1U but the fans are on top of the heatsinks. For a 2U case I'd recommend HSFs with FANs on the side.

You may try the boxed versions. If they won't fit you just would have to get some coolers ASAP /wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif' /> They really may fit into the case but I don't know if they can still "inhale" enough fresh air if there is just a little bit of space left.
