I want to build a "basic" server (AMD Opteron 146 0r 148) and am trying to determine an appropriate motherboard, I am partial to ASUS and AMD specs suggest ASUS - SK8N, however suppiers indicate it's dicontinued, which seems strange? Help would be appreciated, TKS,

I'd say that the SK8N is somehow a desktop board. So you could also take a look at Socket 939 CPUs and boards. 1xx Opterons will be released for Socket 939 as well. That doesn't make much sense but if you want to call a desktop system a server that's the way.

If not I can still recommend to take a closer look at the Tyan mainboards. Visit www.tyan.com and search for the matching product of your needs.

What do you mean by basic server? What applications and services will you be running on it? Do you plan on expanding it?
