Hi all,
I am new here, so please give me a pleasant start :-)
I have a server problem to solve on my desk. Trouble is as follows:
-S2882G3NR-Mainboard, 2*2Opteron 246, $GB RAM -3Ware 9500S8 8 channel SATA, and 8* 250 GM Maxtor disks attached. -Adaptec 29160 SCSI controller, anda Tandberg Ultrium LTO2 attached for backup. -3com Gigabit 3csx ...nic.
Problem: All is fine, just when we do ANY SCSI-I/O, like restoring files from the tape, we get a performance drop by some 30x. I mean, the disks get by 30x slower, not just 30%, factor 30.
I will replug the 3ware into slot1, and the 29160 in slot 4, the gbit nic in slot 3 I'll also do a Bios upgrade to 3.03, we run 3.00.
Question why it drops so down when scsi i/O occurs. Any idea ? OS is W2k3 Server.
Thanks a lot for your help,
Carsten

Hi,
today, I have been there, and it is as follows (little different): -the main problem is that if one user does a big file copy job (load on the harddrives), then the whole system gets sluggish. Nothing to do with SCSI.
I will try to separate the PCI cards. At the moment, there is the 3ware on PCI1 (most right), then on 2 we have a 3com fiber, on 3 the 29160, 4 is empty. Tyan says to replug the 3ware in slot 1, and leave 2 free, net and scsi into 3&4, 3ware says the same.
tomorrow morning I'll know more on that :-)
