I have a K8N-DL motherboard with two 246 Opterons running - and a very simple and ordinary PCI sound card. Using the Debian kernel for _one_ cpu everything is fine. However, using the smp kernel the machine freezes while booting (at the second SATA hard disk). When taking the sound card out of the machine the two CPU's are working ok - although _awfully slow_. Huh?

- what has the presence of the PCI sound card to do with the 2nd processor
- should I use RAID instead of the SATA controllers?

BTW: The K8N-DL is using the latest firmware version 1004.
