Those of you whose K8W chokes for a few seconds when loading the WinXP splash screen at boot time (and anyone else with more serious problems) may wish to check out this seemingly new AMD driver pack: http://www.amd.com/us-en/Proce...chni...71_9034,00.html' ">http://www.amd.com/us-en/Proce...0_182_871_9034,00.html

Are they actually new though? The last time they posted "new" drivers it was just a roll up of the old drivers that was dated the day they posted it.
On a more related to this thread note. What are you guys talking about? What is this choking problem?
I get tons of paging errors for my cdrom in winxp (no errors of the like in linux on the same machine) is this possibly related? Look in the "Event Viewer".

To what I know,I guess he means during boot the bar under the Windows XP Logo will suddenly move v.slowly. And I found that it can be solved by not installing the IDE driver

The choking is as darwinmak describes. The IDE driver certainly seems to have something to do with it, and it may be an interaction with the Nvidia drivers because the IDE driver on its own does not appear to cause problems, at least not on my machine.
As for whether the drivers are really new: hard to say as I did not note down the version numbers of the old ones before I replaced them.
Incidentally, it is amusing that the two posters above assumed the nerdiness betrayed by the original post could not have possibly belonged to a woman...

Well, to be honest I didn't even think about it. Where I live it is as common for a group of females to refer to their group as "guys" as it is for males to do it. Sounds very weird but I guess I am more used to it then I realized. And I don't associate nerdiness exclusively with males at all so . . .

I didn't mean it as a criticism. I bet 99.9% of the people here are men, so it is a wholly natural assumption to make, even if you actually didn't.

So would I need to uninstall my old drivers...then install the new ones without installed the IDE Driver? Is this correct to help elivate the slugishness during booting?
