Will Windows XP Pro work on Dual Opteron 240 Processors?
Do I need Windows 2003 or Windows XP 64bit Edition?

Yes, any AMD 64-bit CPU will run 32-bit x86 OS'es with totaly compatability.

Windows 2K and XP Pro will also still recognize your two CPUs

Yes, I've had WinXP running on dual Opterons (recognising both CPU's)...however...it's far from the *optimum* OS to be running!

if you want NUMA and large memory (>4G)size support then only win 2003 has it.

But if you really want optimum, go linux as you get all that and more
