I've purchased a (probably not new) Barcelona 2346 1.8 GHz CPU. I swear this is the last time I'm buying from a 3rd or 4th tier vendor to save a couple of bucks. Reason? It didn't arrive in the AMD PIB packaging.

Just below the AMD logo is this "2006 AMD". Is this chip soon to be 3 years old? I have a hard time believing that the processor sat on a vendor's shelf for the last couple of years.

ahh, the stepping code . . . let me check that the net for the latest. Just to be clear, once a chip is made with a particular stepping "version" (i.e. "stepping code") it can't be changed in any way, correct?

The "2006 AMD" is a copyright notice, not the introduction date of your CPU. As you can see in the overview, yours was introduced in September 2007.

I don't know by heart, but I think the 0813 might be the year and week number of your processor.
