I am considering purchasing a Tyan Thunder K7X (S2468) server motherboard with dual AMD MP processor support.

This will be my first venture with dual processor boards and I appreciate that matching of the processors is a required criteria.

I am considering installing 2x MP2600's. What details in the stepping are crucial to the matching and just how close a match is required for trouble free operation.

Also I wonder if matched processors are commercially available as a package as I have been unable to find any.

I think if they are of the same frequency they will work fine.

Some mobos even support dual processors with different frequencies.

BTW it is possible to install AthlonXPs as AthlonMPs with some modding but they may not run stable.
