I have an old Tyan S2462 Thunder K7 motherboard that I purchased a single MP 2800+ for (with intentions of adding a second CPU later). I've discovered some compatibility problems with the Tyan board and the ATI Radeon AIW 9600 Pro, and I really need to be able to use the ATI board. I'd like to go with another motherboard but still keep the processor. Do I have to use an MP motherboard (very few available, and twice as expensive) or can I use an XP compatible motherboard? I realize I'd only be able to use a single CPU, but a second CPU is less important to me than the ATI board. Thanks.

Your CPU will run in any modern(KT600/Nforce2-based) single-CPU mobo of your choice without problems

Already upgraded bios to latest (2.14) from Tyan. Also installed latest AMD chipset drivers. No luck. Tried installing in both Win2K and WinXP on same motherboard. ATI Catalyst install locks up machine as soon as Installshield uncompresses the setup files.

Make sure you have both 'Sideband Addressing' and 'AGP Fastwrites' disabled, if you have the option to do so in BIOS.
You could also try to reduce the AGP Transfer mode...this will reduce performance a bit(depending on what mode you're using).
