Note: I've used these forums before to help build my system in 2002 but it's been awhile so I may not be quite as up to date as before. =p
Specs: ASUS A7M266-D Revision 1.03 2x Athlon MP 1900+ with stock fans 2x Seagate 80GB ATA 7200RPM 512MB DDR ECC REG PC2100 52x CD-ROM MSI GeForce4 MX440 64mb adaptec 1200A ATA100 RAID CARD +1 case fan (450W power supply)
so it's been working wonderfully for the past 2 years. Recently, however, CPU0 fan has weakened and it occationally drop 2000-4000 rpms slower than it should. (The fans were previously recorded to run at a steady 5600 rpm on average). So I tried changing the CPU0 fan with CPU1 fan spot and the problem follows the fan. Naturally I assumed the problem is most likely a faulty fan. I called up AMD and they immediately sent me a replacement fan + heatsink. When i installed the replacement fan+heatsink, my computer now turns off 3 seconds after hitting the on button.
Specs for replacement as far as I can see it: Model # AFB0612MC DC 12V 0.17A
it's a 3 pin copper bottom heatsink that's about 60mmx67mm. Black fan, slightly wider than my stock fan.
So anyone knows how this compares? Is the replacement fan compatible? Is it a proper replacement or did AMD screw it up?
